Bellevue University

Master of Science in Clinical Counseling

The Bellevue University Master of Science in Clinical Counseling (MSCC) degree program is designed for mental health counselors seeking to advance their careers. The program is modeled on national licensing standards and prepares students for the national licensing exam. Students will gain an applied understanding of the professional knowledge, industry best practices, and the necessary skills to serve client needs.

The M.S. in Clinical Counseling is a 60-credit graduate degree program that includes 100 hours of practicum (40 hours of observation) and 600 hours of clinical internship (40% direct client contact) under supervision of a licensed counselor. Students can choose to do coursework online or in class. Online students may complete clinical hours in their home state through an accountability and approval process with Bellevue University’s Internship Director.

The curriculum includes courses covering the counseling profession, theories, research practices, human development and legal and ethical issues; advanced courses in diagnosis of disorders, group processes, social and cultural diversity, medical and social-psychosocial aspects of drug use, career development, couples and family counseling. Electives provide advanced knowledge in applied neuroscience and psychopharmacology, treatment of child and adolescent disorders, or human sexuality.
